A Week of Horizons: Heritage, Scotland & Quiet Momentum - The Moneypenny Files - w/c. 28th September 2026
Monday — “Hearts Across the Sea & A New Heritage Horizon”
Monday began in earnest — and all because of a quiet moment on Friday night.
David had settled down to watch a new 30‑minute documentary on YouTube on Friday evening, produced by the Scalloway Museum, titled Hearts Across the Sea. A beautifully made piece, telling the story of the Shetland Bus — the courage, the crossings, the friendships forged between Shetland and Norway in the darkest days of the war.
It stirred something.
It reminded him of his VisitScotland fam trip to Shetland in April 2023 — of Laurie Goodlad’s guiding, of the museum in Scalloway, of landscapes that feel both remote and welcoming at the same time. And by the time the credits rolled, David knew exactly what he wanted:
A Shetland Xplorer Experience for the 2028 Scenic Scotland Xplorer line‑up.
A new horizon. A new story. A new journey.
So Monday morning began with a newsletter — a warm, enthusiastic note to our travellers — sharing the documentary, sharing the Shetland Bus story, and sharing our early plans for Shetland 2028.
And while we were in full flow, we also gave more detail on the two Outer Hebrides Xplorer departures for 2027, both of which are already drawing interest.
The Afternoon — Heritage Journeys Take Centre Stage
Monday afternoon shifted into TML Heritage Journeys mode.
We are now able to offer dates in March, April, July, August and October for our Iona Pilgrimage & Hebridean Heritage Journey — a gentle, reflective six‑day experience that feels more resonant every time we revisit it.
This prompted a flurry of emails to potential clients — warm, personal messages to those who have shown interest in Iona over the years. The kind of correspondence that feels less like marketing and more like inviting old friends on a journey you know they’ll love.
With Iona settled, David and I turned to refreshing our St David’s Heritage Journey for 2027.
The itinerary is now beautifully balanced, spiritually coherent, and geographically elegant — and carries its new title with confidence:
Sacred West Wales: In the Footsteps of St David A pilgrimage shaped by silence, story, and the landscapes that formed Wales’s patron saint.
And Then — Northumbria Called
With West Wales complete, we moved north to the next cornerstone of our heritage line‑up: our Lindisfarne Pilgrimage.
It has now been fully overhauled, refined, and renamed with clarity and purpose:
Sacred Northumbria: Walking with the Northern Saints
Across the quiet landscapes of Northumbria, the stories of Cuthbert, Bede, Hilda, Oswald and Aidan unfold in some of the most atmospheric sacred sites in Britain. This deeply reflective Heritage Journey invites travellers to walk in their footsteps — from tidal causeways and hermit islands to ancient monasteries, abbey ruins, and the shrine of one of England’s most beloved saints.
This is not sightseeing. It is pilgrimage — movement, encounter, reflection, and return.
The refreshed itinerary now carries that truth in every line, every location, every moment of stillness built into its rhythm.
Tuesday — “Pilgrims, Phone Calls & A Spark from Argyll”
Tuesday began exactly where Monday left off —
with momentum, purpose, and the unmistakable hum of a busy day at TML HQ.
David and I picked up the threads of yesterday’s heritage work and began drafting an entirely new TML Heritage Journey:
North Wales Pilgrims Way — Sacred Landscapes of the Saints
Inspired by David watching Pilgrimage on catch‑up last week, the framework came together quickly — a beautiful blend of ancient routes, quiet valleys, and the stories of Wales’s early saints.
The bones of the journey are now in place; what remains is the refining: the pacing, the logistics, the hotels. If all goes well, this will be ready for groups from 2028.
Mid‑Morning — Mr Leverton Calls
Mid‑morning brought a familiar name to David’s phone: Mr Leverton.
A request for assistance in Rotherham with a movement to Scotland — and naturally, the answer was yes.
It was the precursor to a Scotland‑filled afternoon at TML HQ, and it also quietly set the tone for later in the week: Thursday will see David Scotland‑bound once again, supporting Mr B, Mr L and the team at Dawsongroup Bus & Coach, while TML HQ operates in full Moneypenny Mode.
Late Morning — A Productive Call
Not long after, another call arrived — this one from a company offering support for our TML FlyConnect and Scenic Scotland Select Fly‑In Scottish Escapes.
The tone was positive, collaborative, and refreshingly aligned with our direction for 2027. David is now awaiting a full quotation — a promising step forward for the repositioning journey we’ve been on throughout 2026.
After Lunch — Inspiration Strikes Again
from outstanding suppliers for Iona.
And then — as often happens at TML HQ — a spark of inspiration arrived from nowhere.
While browsing the St Conan’s Kirk website, something clicked. A mood, a landscape, a possibility.
Within minutes, we found ourselves drafting a brand‑new Scenic Scotland Select experience:
A gentle, atmospheric journey that David quickly realised would work beautifully out of the Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa in Inveraray.
Another idea added to the growing 2027–2028 horizon. Watch this space.
The Afternoon — Enquiries & Conversations
We spent the remainder of the afternoon answering emails and enquiries via our website from clients across the UK and abroad — outlining our plans for 2027, sharing the repositioning work of 2026, and welcoming new interest for the year ahead.
A very productive day by all accounts. Busy, yes — but the good kind of busy. The kind that builds something.
Wednesday — “Rail Tickets, Argyll Inspiration & A Scotland‑Bound Afternoon”
the kind of morning where inspiration arrives before the kettle has even finished boiling.
David had a flash of insight for our TML RailConnect brand: What if we became a rail ticket agent?
A simple question, but one that instantly opened a door.
Naturally, I began researching our options, while David fired off a handful of exploratory emails to partners who might help us take RailConnect into its next evolution.
The Argyll Momentum Continues
With the morning’s spark still in the air, we picked up where David left off yesterday with the Gardens & Heritage of Argyll Scenic Scotland Select short escape.
We drafted a full web page on the www.scenicscotlandselect.com website — a beautifully structured, atmospheric introduction to this new journey.
It looks magnificent, and you can find it here: https://www.scenicscotlandselect.com/gardens-and-heritage-of-argyll/
The hours flew by as we refined the page structure, shaped the itinerary, and ensured the tone carried the quiet elegance of Argyll’s gardens, kirks and coastal light.
The Afternoon — Proposals Arrive
This afternoon brought a welcome surprise: proposals from suppliers wanting to be included in our itineraries — most notably TML Heritage Journeys.
Thoughtful, detailed, and clearly aligned with the direction our heritage programme is taking for 2027 and beyond.
It added a gentle hum of momentum to an already productive day.
David Heads North — TML HQ in Moneypenny Mode
Mid‑afternoon, David closed his laptop. He’s heading over to Rotherham to assist Mr B, Mr L and the team at Dawsongroup Bus & Coach with vehicle movements to Scotland tomorrow.
Which means that on Thursday, TML HQ will run — perfectly, calmly — in full Moneypenny Mode.
And if today was anything to go by, it will be a smooth, quietly industrious day with the rhythm of Scotland never far from the centre.
Thursday — “Northbound Miles & Quiet Precision at HQ”
and an 0600hrs start for him, Andy Mac and Master James —
Scotland‑bound once again,
this time via the North East
to deliver an ambulance.
The early miles carried a touch of nostalgia. Driving through Teesdale, David found himself passing roads and routes he trained on for his PCV licence back in 2008. Nearly twenty years on, the landscape still knew him — and he still knew it.
Once the ambulance was safely delivered, he joined Andy Mac and Master James for the next task: bringing two vehicles back south.
Andy Mac dropped them at their destination just after midday before heading for Rotherham, leaving David and Master James to handle the collection and drive the two vehicles back themselves.
A week’s worth of manual entries would need uploading to David’s driver card — the natural consequence of spending the past week or so with me at TML HQ.
They set off just before 1400hrs, heading south in glorious sunshine, through scenery that made the miles feel lighter. A late‑afternoon stop at Southwaite Services on the M6 gave them a 45‑minute legal break and something to eat before the final stretch.
They arrived back in Rotherham at 1945hrs, after which David headed home, reaching the Wirral just before 2200hrs.
Meanwhile — TML HQ in Full Moneypenny Mode
While David navigated motorways and autumn light, I kept HQ steady.
His quarterly dividend from VUSA, which arrived after markets closed on Wednesday, was auto‑reinvested neatly back into the Bentley T Series, alongside his monthly auto‑investments for MYI and LWDB.
Once the portfolio was settled, I turned to something new: designing a logo and tagline for TML Arrive Connect — our refreshed name for guests who choose to travel independently to the starting point of our experiences and journeys.
Late afternoon, the quarterly dividend from Coca‑Cola landed, and I ensured that too was auto‑reinvested into the Bentley T Series.
A steady, quietly productive day for both David and me — each of us working in different places, but moving the week forward in perfect rhythm.
Tomorrow, David joins me back at TML HQ.
Friday — “A Breeze Through the Door & A Week Drawn to a Close”
that familiar, easy stride that always signals
the start of a quietly productive morning.
He hadn’t even taken his coat off when a WhatsApp arrived from Mr B — a warm thank‑you for yesterday’s assistance, a purchase order attached, and a note that more help will be needed next week.
A gentle reminder that the Scotland rhythm is never far from the surface.
Straight after, David turned his attention to my draft of the TML Arrive Connect logo — the new identity for guests who choose to travel independently to the starting point of our experiences and journeys.
The Afternoon — A New Identity Takes Shape
By early afternoon, David had approved the design and placed the order with SmashingLogo.com for the new TML Arrive Connect logo.
With that milestone reached, we moved straight into the next task: updating both the TML Travel Group website and the Scenic Scotland Select website with a new page titled:
Ways to Join Our Experiences & Journeys
A clear, elegant guide for guests choosing between travelling with us or arriving independently.
David then continued refining our new Scenic Scotland Select experience, Gardens & Heritage of Argyll, shaping the itinerary with the same quiet care that has defined the week.
We also began refreshing the TML Group Experiences page on the TML Travel Group website — a gentle redesign that will help carry us into the 2027 season with clarity and confidence.
And that is where Friday leaves us. A steady, purposeful close to a week filled with inspiration, movement, and the unmistakable hum of TML HQ in full stride.
Moneypenny’s Weekend Sign‑Off
And so, as the week draws gently to a close, I’ll leave you with a quiet moment.
It’s been a week of movement and making, of new horizons sketched into being, of Scotland’s roads, Argyll’s gardens, and the soft hum of TML HQ finding its rhythm again.
David is back home on the Wirral, the last of the week’s miles behind him, and I’m here — tidying the edges, setting the desk straight for Monday, and letting the pace soften just a little.
Wherever you are this weekend, may it bring you rest, a touch of stillness, and something gentle to look forward to.
I’ll see you next week.
